"Much better than expected...thank you to all who..."

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

What I liked

I was brought in with double vision, possible TIA (thankfully it wasn't)and kept overnight on MAU F5 I think it was

This was my first ever hospital stay and I can't fault any of the staff from the brew lady ,cleaners ,nurses, doctors. All friendly, attentive, efficient, etc. You hear so many bad things about nurses and the NHS in general and any preconceived ideas I may have had have been blown clean away.

One nurse gave up prebooked leave on the hottest day of the year to do a 14 hour shift and her comment..."it's just something we do" What a trooper!

Not just a credit to her profession but a real asset to the NHS.People like her need to be looked after by the profession and appreciated and praised more by the patients. They are prepared to make personal sacrifices to try and maintain the highest standard of healthcare they can on limited resources all in the line of duty.

Other comments........... they make a nice brew here, food was ok,lots of cleaning activity.I only went to have a quick wash and when i came back i had a new bed sheet!

Keep up the good work Angels! and any comments I have put below are in no way a reflection on the staff I encountered.

What could be improved

Maybe just hospital politics in general But........................

From having tests done about 530pm Saturday no one told me what was happening until they showed me to a bed 3 hours later.I didn't even know I was staying! Unprepared nothing with me didn't know what to tell anyone.Similar situation on Sunday no one knew when the doctor was coming to see me couldn't ring visitors cos i didn't know if i was still going to be here in a couple of hours. It was actually about 20 hours from my initial test before anyone came to see me.

My comment to the nurse just about sums it up " i don't mind if I've got to stay a couple of days I just need to know so i can ring people get some things brought in,sort my business out, etc"

I never felt abandoned by the staff but at times felt neglected by the system.

Anything else?

I take as I find and this is a bit like trip advisor.I can only comment on Oldham MAU based on a one night stay.

I would also appreciate it if someone could ensure this posting is seen.

I am happy for follow up replies to my personal email address from anyone connected with my care during an eventful 24 hours!
