"A&E"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was sent to A&E by the 111 service who told me they would ring ahead to let them know I was coming.

When I arrived, I went to the A&E area and was asked what was wrong.

My symptom was written on a piece of paper and I was sent to another area.

The receptionist there ignored me for 5 minutes and I was then told to wait. I saw the receptionist ignore people and send very sick patients back to the other bit of A&E to get the piece of paper, only to then be sent back to her to be be ignored. She called people forward in such a quiet voice that they couldn't hear her and she then got cross with them.

One very worried young man asked how how long it was likely to be because his girlfriend was in a lot of pain and the receptionist literally shrugged.

A frantically worried couple with a sick child were literally told off for coming to the wrong desk (they hadn't known to collect the precious piece of paper first)

The nurses were lovely and efficient but this particular receptionist was well and truly vile.

I accept that the service was struggling with the building work, but the situation was confusing and people felt vulnerable and the LAST thing they needed was to be told off or ignored.
