"Baby delivery ward and services"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Maternity

We live in Blackheath and choose Queen Elizabeth hospital for our maternity services and baby delivery. Hospitals work under very tough financial and operational conditions and to be honest my only interaction with them normally is a trip to A&E for something non life threatening (which let’s be honest is always going to take time because everyone seems to be in there with a cut finger) or visiting someone else. I recommend the open visits they do of the maternity unit on a the last or first Wednesday of the month check the website to see. I was really impressed by everything they showed us. During the pregnancy we needed extra scans and a bit more attention which was brilliant. The labour was long and hard for my wife, the midwifes work 12 hour shifts, we went through 5 teams of midwifes and the level of medical and personal care was excellent from start to finish from all the staff. The one aim is to is make sure mom and baby leave hospital happy and healthy and this showed. These ladies and gentlemen do a tough job that in my opinion not a lot of us could handle with the stress and constant pressure they are under. I highly recommend the maternity unit. The NHS is under a huge strain financially and trying to managing people’s expectations on what it can deliver, but there are not many countries that can provide free at point of use healthcare with world class staff and services. Our experience was a positive one I hope yours is to. And thank you to all the staff who work there, even the non medical staff like the cleaners and canteen staff, who were always polite and helpful. If you go in with realistic expectations and treat them as you want to be treated you will have a good experience.

Thank you so much for your kind words and taking the time to post them.

The maternity team work incredibly hard to make each woman’s experience a positive one and it is so lovey to hear that we have made a positive difference to you and your family.

We recognize how special this this time is and we are hugely privileged to play a small part in it. All members of the team play an integral part in this and we are very proud of the housekeeping staff, the kitchen staff, the support workers, students, midwives and doctors and other specialist practitioners and your feedback will be shared with them.
