I gave birth to my son at Wishaw General Hospital in May this year. I experienced fantastic care from my community midwife Maria through out my pregnancy and after. She is a fantastic midwife and made me feel fully looked after at every point of my pregnancy! Towards the end of my pregnancy student Lauren shadowed her at each appointment and she too was fantastic. She will make a great midwife when qualified!
I had a few complications during my pregnancy and had to attend Wishaw General several times for different reasons. The care and support from the staff on the triage ward and the day unit was consistently brilliant! My care in the hospital as I laboured and gave birth to my son was out of this world! I had a fast labour and it was quite traumatic with a few emergencies but our midwife Lucy and student Emily were so supportive and made me feel safe and looked after at all times. The midwives, doctors, anaesthetist, surgeons, physios, pediatricians...everyone was amazing!
My only complaint would be one midwife who spent the time unhelpfully telling quite aggressively to calm down. I also had a run in with a staff member at monklands during my care who had the worse attitude of anyone I've met but a formal, collective complaint was submitted following this by myself and a few other women who had encountered her.
Postnatally, I seen a midwife 3 times in the 1st 10 days and was signed over to a health visitor. It then took 11 days to get an appointment with a health visitor which wasnt ideal as this is my 1st pregnancy and I could have been doing with the support earlier but luckily I have my husband and a very supportive family around me. But mainly I want to emphasize just how unbelievably happy my husband and I were with the care we received from Maria and from the staff at Wishaw General! We couldn't fault them at all and couldn't have felt more safe, secure and supported throughout my pregnancy and labour and aftercare in the hospital
