What could be improved
First of all the staff could have been a lot more friendly, none of them seemed to want to be there. The care I received was terrible, simply because I'm only 17! All I heard was 'You're young, it'll be a quick recovery with minimum pain', but it was not a quick recovery and the pain is awful to this day.
Care needs to be improved immediately and recovery needs to be explained better. The doctors need to realise that young patients should not be dismissed simply because of their age.
Furthermore, the surgeon cancelled my appointments twice! Then I didn't even get to see him, but his understudy who didn't listen to a thing I said.
Anything else?
I was in for key-hole kidney removal, which was supposed to mean a quicker recovery, yet it certainly hasn't been. I've had to miss a lot off college due to the sheer ammount of pain I have been in since my op.
I have since been told by my surgeons under study that "it will probably clear up soon." It's been over two months already. and "It could be reflux of urine up the tube left connected to your bladder but I'm very very reluctant to send you for any kind of scan because you're only 17." Then of course he sent me away, still in agony to wait - and suffer - for another follow up at some point in the probably far future.
It's Ridiculous, 17-year-olds and 89-year-olds alike should be offered the same treatment and good care. Young people can have complications too, the NHS need to stop trying to put things off as STDS, ect. My cousin was told she had an STD, so they ignored her serious symptoms. Fact is she had cancer. She died aged 20 after no treatment, kidney removal which they messed up twisting her bowel, and a lot of agonly, all because of the NHS's aversion to taking young people seriously!
"I hope I never have to go to this hospital again."
