"CPFT meeting in waiting room peterbrough"

About: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust Peterborough District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I was in Peterborough waiting room in their mental health hospital and while I was waiting for my treatment to start I was sitting in the waiting room and 2 others were chatting about how they didn't think a service user was right for the hospital as he wasn't coming back from his leave. The service user was nowhere to be seen. The other person agreed, they also had the service user's notes everywhere and was using the service user's name in a very public place.

As a service user there myself and a health and social CARE student I was very horrified by this and wondering if that person was getting the right CARE and treatment.

It made me fear confiding in my therapist, just in case the same thing happened to me. It was very disturbing and it needs to change.

Also when i spoke to my therapist about gender isues and not eating disordered issues she had no clue on how to talk to me about it, and didnt really know anything about gender issues or any service that could help.

Also I was taken to hospital and was treated badly in A&E for being a self harmer and having an eating disorder. I was told to stop cutting and just eat. Oh if only.

My first appointment with the crisis team i was fobbed off. I couldn't get to the hospital so they came out to the doctors, but then they decided it would be better to see me at my house but she ended up filling out a questionnaire and going back to the hospital as she had a discharge to do, and not have enough time to support or talk to me in a hard time. I ended up being looked at again by the crisis team as the first person i saw just made me worse and i ended up overdosing anyway.

So I'm hoping that seeing the intake and treatment team won't be as bad as all my other experiences. I have to say that doing my CAT work was pretty good but i dont think it helped my situation or improved me in anyway, it just told me what my eating disorder was about and gave me ways out which just weren't possible to do.

Thank you for your very helpful feedback.

I was extremely concerned to read about your experiences of the service provided by the Trust. The matters raised are very serious indeed and therefore I do not feel it would be appropriate to respond to these concerns via Patient Opinion.

I would value having an opportunity to speak with you directly in order to gain a more detailed understanding of what happened in order that these matters can be investigated. Please contact me on PALS@ cpft.nhs.uk or call 0800 3760775.
