Over the past 10 years my mother has been in and out of hospital, seeing various doctors and consultants. She is now under the care of Doctor Mitchell Geriatric Medicine in the QEUH. Since being under her care i have found that Doctor Mitchell goes above and beyond normal consultative protocols and procedures that i have seen in the past with other doctors.Prior to Doctor Mitchell my mothers consultation would last approx 5 to 10 minutes, however now Doctor Mitchell takes time to listen to my mother she explains everything, she shows compassion ,empathy and above all does not rush you out the door.
She constantly follows up with my mum personally to advise of any updates and medicine changes, that she has arranged with GP etc. She makes my mum feel respected as an individual and not as though she is just a patient with a number.
She took the time to ensure that all of the medical information was understood by drawing diagrams and explaining everything slowly and clearly in laymen terms that were understandable.
My mum saw Doctor Mitchell in March she was told that she would be fitted for a pacemaker as a matter of urgency and Doctor Mitchell seen that she was fitted for this within three weeks, she is not due to be seen again until June. But Doctor Mitchell called my mother in May to check on her and ensure that she was feeling alright and how she felt and was coping after the surgery. She also asked if she had any help and if there was anything that she could do for her prior to her next appointment in June.
I believe that the actions of this doctor deserve to be commended for adding this personal touch she is an amazing doctor and i cannot praise her high enough for everything that she is doing and has done. I know that she makes my mother feel like she matters and as my mothers carer i feel that this doctor should be recognised for all the work and personal attention that she is given.
Regards
