"The care was outstanding"

About: Borders General Hospital / Department of Medicine for Elderly

(as a relative),

My wife has advanced bowel and liver cancer.  Her temperature went up when we were on holiday in the Borders and the Cancer Helpline suggested that we call an ambulance.  It took her to BGH where she spent eight days, seven of them in Ward 14.

The care was outstanding.  Auxiliaries, nurses and doctors were forthright and efficient, but always friendly and personal.  They engaged with my wife as a person and gave her reassurance when she was distressed as her temperature was high.

One small snippet: I watched the consultant speaking with the team and writing and checking notes.  Being earnest and firm, clearly intent on getting the job done without wasting time.  The consultant then went in to the ward and switched on a warm smile as each patient was spoken to.  What an example!

Excellent care: we are so grateful to everyone.

Dear Jayvee

Thank you very much for taking the time to use Care Opinion to share the details of your wife's experience during her stay in Ward 14. I was delighted to hear that you both had such a positive experience and found the care given to your wife to be outstanding.

The staff in Ward 14 really appreciate patients and their relatives providing feedback as it really does help with staff morale and your story has been shared with them for which they are very grateful.

Regards,

Karen
