"Good for the area but let down by the reception..."

About: East Hull Family Practice

The two GP's I have interacted with have been polite and professional if a little distracted - this could be due to being overworked.

As a young and healthy patient, I rarely use the service and simply sit on the register as a net gain to the GP's books. Conscious of this fact and in no particular need to change GP's, it is the painful experience of essentially every interaction with the reception staff that has driven me to seek out a new GP. The healthcare provision at Morril street has always been top-notch, but the admin staff desperately require basic lessons in effective communication and customer service - an alternative could be increased automation and reduction of the wage bill (as is happening across similar skill level retail and F&B roles).

I appreciate that some of the patients seen at Morril street may be rude and lack opportunities in life but the default position of the receptionists should be one of sincerity and kindness. While competition in the primary healthcare sector is low such behaviour will not be easily weeded out, but with the advent of online GP's one is now able to 'vote with your wallet' and place yourself on the register of a more modern service - though for now I will simply travel a little farther if I ever need an appointment.
