"Sister condescending but other staff great!"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I recently visited a and e with my sister in law and as it was an emergency her baby had to come along. As she waited the sister informed me rudely that it was not a place for a.child and that she should be taken home. Obviously we were not on a day trip and we had no intention of giving her a tour of the facilities I felt ataken back from this. When my niece wanted a cuddle from her mother (who was on an a and e trolley at the time) the same sister told her this was inappropriate as there were infections infections and bugs she could catch. My mind was not quick enough to think of a response at that time as a lot was happening..But an already stressed mother and baby should be able to sjow affection when they both needed it. I felt lack of compassion from this nurse who was fleeting from patient to patient My response now would be, surely the trolley that my sister in law was on was cleaned appropriately and therefore should not be an issue. However if it was not cleaned appropriately this needs to be highlighted to a higher level and I agree however if the nurse waa not happy for a baby to be on tje trolley why should ot be ok for my sister in law to be placed up on a possibly dirty trolley. Unfortunately another example of how the nhs is let down by the already stretched resources, staff shortages and over worked.staff. All other care in the wards for almost a week was great. And the band 5 nurse is a and e was amazing with both sister in law and niece who brought a smile to everyones face (apart from the sisters).
