"Very distressing with the potential of lifelong..."

About: Leighton Hospital

What I liked

I arrived at a&e with all the symptoms of a stroke. I was told to go home and that I had a headache. No tests were done at all despite me asking and depiste me clearly outlining every single symptom of a stroke. The following day my GP was very concerned and believed I'd had an brain haemorrhage and advised me to go back. I went back to a&e and on arrival told them I had a suspected haemorrhage, that my Dr had told me to come back and I was clearly in a lot of pain and distress. I was kept waiting in a&e for 4.5 hours before a Dr saw me and he told me that I had a headache. I told him I did not have a headache and once again described all my symptoms. A succession of 4 different Drs all saw me and each refused any tests and each said I had a headache. I was discharged. I am curently in hospital in Wakfeild where I am being treated for subarachnoid haemorrhage. Dispite all the symptoms clearly fitting a bleed in the head and despite me asking repeatedly for further investigation, Leighton hospital refused to do anything. I am disgusted that the large delay in diagnosis and treatment means I may have far reaching loss of brain function as a direct result. I am disgusted at how I was treated at Leighton hospital.

What could be improved

Running the appropriate tests and scans to rule out a stroke was a no brainer and was done immediately when I was admitted to Wakefield.
