"Friendly staff but airless and odd waiting room..."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Gynaecology

My first visit to the centre. I thought the entrance very impressive and comparable to the foyers of Canary Wharf. I thought the clinics if first impressions continued would be light, airy areas in brick and chrome, the same as the entrance lobby, not the dull pale yellow colour in the main hospital. Alas that is what you get once through the doors of the entrance facade. At first, a lot happens, you sign in and quickly get seen. You only notice the claustrophobic set up once you are waiting. I would like to know why it is deemed necessary to be literally penned in behind varnished picket fence panels,, that children run behind anyway, but makes one feel a cross between a sheep or a tot in a play pen what is the POINT of them please? Unattractive and unnecessary. It makes the sitting area squashed. I don't usually have claustrophobia but after an hour sitting up against the fence I felt an odd need to escape. There are no windows, no glimpse of daylight. No apparent air conditioning. No plants or effort to relieve the leaden atmosphere and continue the entrance theme. Why? The subterranean area COULD have been created so differently. This is where serious issues are discussed, are staff and patients alike not entitled to rooms larger than broom cupboards and waiting areas that have light, air and space like he entrance? I cannot fault the staff, but not being a mole or a sheep, could never work there. Get rid of the fencing and space it out a bit, find a way to get daylight in there.... I know you won't though, front was a nice try but still a facade.
