"A compassionate & Caring Palliative Service"

My grandmother was recently admitted from her dementia residential home following an acute deterioration. Initially there was an issue regarding decision to treat or to palliate whilst in the ED department. However, following an excellent review by the palliative specialist nurse in the ED department, Grandma was admitted to a palliative side room. The care from the nursing staff was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Everything that could be done was done quietly, efficiently and compassionately. The staff supported our family as much as my grandma. They took time to ask our opinions, genuinely listened and explained what was happening. The facilities were clean and there was even a room for my mother to stay overnight to be near.

Information was provided regarding food and drink, night access and car parking. The staff kindly offered teas, coffees and midnight sandwiches for family members staying overnight. The Hospital has provided a first rate service and should be commended to the CQC. (Please copy this to the ward, ward staff, specialist nurses and Trust quality / governance board for their use in appraisal and quality assurance. This has been the best impatient and palliative care I have witnessed in my 20 years working in the NHS.)
