"Speedy and reassuring"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Accident and emergency

I brought my 3 year old son in this morning at about 630, he had pulled a rocking chair over on himself hurting his stomach. At the time of the injury, he was pinned to the floor by the weight, in tears and in (what seemed to be) a huge amount of pain. I quickly dressed him and my 4 year old and raced up to hospital. When in with the lovely triage nurse Oliver has massively improved, albeit he did still have his miserable face on. The nurse even put my sons Gruffalo puppet on her hand to cheer him up. On the walk through to majors she spoke to my other son, about what he liked at school - writing and reading, so as you know - and we chatted about her boys being too big for books and cuddles now. Once we were in majors, we were warned there would be a wait, which I think is always a good sign, because you are clearly not the sickest person there if you’re made to wait. As it was, our dr came in to the room a lot faster than I was expecting. He too was absolutely lovely. He played with my son, so he didn’t know he was being examined and was just brilliant. He was also brilliant with me because by this point you would never know Oliver had hurt himself. He was full of the joys of spring and grinning like a Cheshire Cat, I felt like I had wasted everyone’s time, but the staff were reassuring that this is what kids tend to do! Another set of obs were done very quickly and we were sent on our way with appropriate advice. We were in and out in under an hour and a half, and everyone we spoke to was amazing, with people going out of their way to make my boys smile and reassure me. Thank you all
