I would like to apologise for any unintentional delays experienced whilst you were in the Emergency Department on the night of 10 May. The department has, over the last few months, been experiencing a higher than anticipated volume of activity when compared with previous years. Waiting times become more problematic when there is an additional surge in activity. We have now secured further funding to provide more senior cover later into the evening and also additional support workers . These new posts are currently being recruited to and it is expected that this will help to reduce such waiting times, particularly when we see a sudden increase in patients attending the department. Once again, please accept our apologies for the delays experienced.

John David, Divisional Lead Nurse, Emergency Care Division.
