"My experience of the maternity unit at QE, the Queen Mother Hospital"

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital / Gynaecology Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

In my opinion the maternity unit is a disgrace. The midwifes who treated me complained about being busy all the time. Not even offered water all day.

I felt like the people around me didn't know what they are doing. I would buzz to get someone and they come in, turn the buzzer off and say "back in a minute" and I had to buzz again an hour later. Happened all the time. Speaking to other patients there, they had the same.

Waters broke and staff just used a towel to wipe it, it was still splashed up the wall hours later. Left to lay in blood due to 4 midwives not being able to get a drip in properly then did nothing to help clean.

Emergency C-section left stuff in womb when should not have done, led to infection. Gone back to get that sorted, had to wait in pain on a hard chair for 6 hours in A&E, to be told they cannot scan for 3-4 days ! All the time all the water machines have gone. People walking around like headless chickens.

We spent 3 days in hospital having breast feeding rammed down your neck, i was awake for nearly 45 hrs, had blood transfusion, and still the midwife would wake me every 2 hrs to try baby on breast. I found this absolute disgraceful, demeaning behavior.
