"Car Park No 2 is in a terrible state"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus

I was hoping to be able to send a private message to the hospital, but could not find a way to do this.

I went on Saturday 4 May 19.

I paid £4 to park for a couple of hours in car park No 2.

To do this, I had the privilege to stand in a muddy puddle immediately in front of the payment machine, and then drive around the potholed car park, avoiding the large flooded hole in the center of the car park (larger than 2 parking slots).

If the parking charges have to remain so high, then the least one could expect would be for some of that money be put toward making this car park fit-for-purpose and safe for customer use. This is spring-time.

If this car park is not remedied before next winter, I expect it would become a major slip/trip hazard, and that, should accidents occur, affected customers would press claims against the hospital.

It is my honest opinion that the hospital is failing in its duty of care to paying customers using this car park in not ensuring that it is maintained to a safe standard.

I'm sorry to hear the conditions in the Yellow Car Park (Car Park 2) at City Hospital caused so much mess and inconvenience, made worse by the recent poor weather.

The yellow car park is a mixture of tarmac and crushed road stone and unfortunately, due to the normal weather conditions that arise in this area, it is subject to shifts in ground conditions that affect the conditions of the surface e.g. a wet winter/summer will probably see an increase in the water table level, therefore not giving a solid base for the car park surface / terrain under the hard-core to support the movement of cars i.e. soft spots / muddy conditions etc.

We continue to make repairs to potholes, filling potholes in the hard-core surface with more hard-core, however, this is always subject to the weather / ground conditions I have described.

This car park has planning permission at present in light of modifications carried out but this is still only temporary, and therefore a more permanent solution cannot be carried out at this time.

We appreciate this isn't ideal and causing problems in adverse weather for patients, visitors and staff. We will continue to repair potholes until a more permanent solution can be found. In the meantime, we are reviewing all of our car parks with a view to improving facilities in response to patient, visitor and staff feedback.

Once again thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Kind regards,

Paula Charlton.
