"The worst Doctor's Surgery I have ever experienced"

About: Beaumont Villa Surgery

I wrote a review on here a few months ago but I can't seem to find it, but not to worry! I am more than happy to write it all down again as the experiences I have had as a patient here go beyond irritating and into the realm of downright negligence. I would not bother going here unless I happened to have a heart attack directly outside the front door. I have Type 1 diabetes which is a life-threatening illness and without my insulin I would not be around for very long. One day, I lost my insulin pen so I went to the pharmacy thinking I could get an emergency one. I couldn't. I was told to go to the Doctor's Surgery to get a prescription. I explained to reception the urgency of the situation and that I needed an emergency insulin pen otherwise I would be seriously ill. They said they would get the Doctor to sign a prescription urgently and fax it to the pharmacy. (By the way the Doctor's and my pharmacy were 20 minutes walk apart). I go back to the pharmacy and find that it has not been sent so off I go back to Beaumont and find that it's still sat in reception, the Doctor has not even looked at it. I do not leave until that prescription is signed and head back to the pharmacy. It is at this point that I have a hypo as my blood sugars have crashed due to all the walking. I recover and get the pharmacy only to find that I have to wait 3 days for this insulin pen DESPITE explaining so many times that I need it TODAY! It's like no-one understood that Type 1 diabetes can kill you without treatment. At this point the Doctor's surgery is closed and I have to call Derriford Hospital who were extremely helpful in directing me to a pharmacy they knew had emergency insulin pens. What makes this situation worse is that I later found out through complaining that there was actually a DIABETES NURSE at the surgery that day and no-one thought to speak to them to see if they have any insulin pens in stock. In relation to my diabetes, I have had so many struggles with them not sending my items to the pharmacy. I order things 2 weeks in advance because there is a 70% chance that they haven't sent my incredibly important, life-saving medication to the pharmacy to pick up. Absolutely useless! If I run out, that is extremely dangerous. What is more, is that getting through on the phones is extremely difficult. I have decided to show up in person to get appointments which requires me to drive straight after work before they close. Another terrible experience that I have had is in relation to my mental health. I used to struggle with depression and during one appointment the Doctor discovered that I used to study Psychology and proceeded to suggest that I could get CBT from my friends and proceeded to ask me a load of questions as to what I thought was wrong with me and what I expected him to do about it. To their credit, I had been put in for that appointment very quickly which was great but the attitude of the Doctor left me feeling even more worthless and useless.
