"Excellent treatment by doctors."

About: Whiston Hospital

What I liked

Diagnosed quickly with gall stone pancreatitis. Referred for numerous scans that were done quickly and felt that I was really being looked after by the doctors. When blood tests showed an unexpected problem, the doctors made sure I was fully informed of the reasons why I couldn't go home.

Nursing staff on 4B were efficient but too busy. I got to know the nursing staff on 4A better and this helped with what could have been a difficult time due to the time I spent on the ward.

What could be improved

Ward 4B is not a good place to be when you're ill as it is so noisy and the changeover of patients is relentless. Noise and light at night is exhausting and doesn't help with the recovery process. I was there for 4 nights and was relieved to move to 4A.

I was treated very well by nursing staff on 4A but they were understaffed especially where

elderly patients needed more care than myself.

There was no regular timing at night for when lights would be turned out and door shut, some nights it would be 10.00pm and other nights well after 11.00pm. This probably suited the nursing staff due to what they had to do but is not beneficial for patients.
