"emergency admission and subsquent heart treatment"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Accident and emergency Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I collapsed at home experiencing extreme fast heart rate 210 per min plus. Emergency response was first class and caring, I was greeted by an emergency team who dealt with me very efficiently and caring establishing my deteriorating condition and treating with swift action. Once transferred to a cardiac ward where I remained for a week, Ward 37, the care and constant monitoring of my condition was excellent. Tests were performed and surgery uncovered a condition I was born with but which had never been picked up.  My heart surgery was completed and was allowed home. My only niggle was I wasn't made aware of a team of specialist nurses who could answer my after care questions. I had to make several phone calls to establish who to speak with etc and once that was in place the care has remained of a very high standard.

As a member of BVH staff its good to be able to report on such a positive experience from a patient perspective.

Hi Eveline

Thank you for sharing your experience about CCU and Ward 37. I’m pleased to hear swift action was taken to respond to your condition and the staff were incredibly supportive at such a worrying time. I will share your kind words with the teams involved, I’m sure they will be delighted to read your praise particularly as a fellow colleague from the Trust.

I was sorry to read that you were not given any printed or written information regarding what to do should you have any concerns following discharge. I will pick this up with the area who discharged you.

Once again thank you for your positive feedback and I wish you all the best in your recovery and for the future.

Regards

Eleanor
