"badly run mau easily let me sign myself out with..."

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

What I liked

I was in MAU which on first impressions was a well run unit .Some of the staff there were welcoming and friendly .Very clean which was cleaned thoroughly and regular.

What could be improved

Too much time waiting for different procedures ie test results and decisions. I was supposed to have a liver scan and they could not narrow it down to the nearest day never mind hour . I was also menstruating and had an accident , there were no private place to wash as the shower room has a gap in the door.there is very little communication with different departments or with myself ,i was left for hours not knowing how long i was supposed to wait, having had no sleep for 24 hours due to the constant coming and going of people right through the night (even visitors) and my knickers and jeans full of blood i signed myself out feeling embaressed and let down, i never want to set foot in there again. I got home and rung my doctor and he explained everything to me in five minuets ,he also booked my scan to be done at he surgery.

We appreciate that the assessment unit is, by its nature, a busy and pressured area which is not always conducive to a restful environment. We are concerned to note these comments, however, and would be pleased to investigate. To that end, we would invite the patient to contact us directly. The email address is pals@midyorks.nhs.uk
