"Delivery Suite"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Maternity

Although the postnatal ward and staff were good and mostly kind and caring, I am extremely disappointed in the way my daughter's labour was handled and in some of the prenatal care she received. She is a tiny person and the baby was very big, so she booked an epidural which was then denied TWICE during her labour which then involved a high forceps delivery and many stitches which are now infected.

This withholding of adequate pain relief is totally unacceptable and actually a denial of human rights!

Obviously the baby was too big for her and an elective caesarian should also have been discussed.

My daughter has been traumatised by all of this and it has also affected her family.

I do not think it acceptable to put anyone through this level of pain and distress when there is absolutely no need.

Having had one baby with an epidural it was the best experience ever and women should not be denied this sort of help if they ask for it.

We are extremely sorry to hear this account of your daughter's birthing experience and the traumatisation it has caused her and the wider family.

We would like the opportunity to address the issues raised in order to prevent any other mum feeling the same way and to ensure that if we have failed her, we make appropriate changes to our systems and processes.

In order to do so we need to investigate further and would urge your daughter to contact the PALS team on 01522 707071, or via e-mail at pals@ulh.nhs.uk, so that the most appropriate manager can investigate and then contact you directly. Alternatively, your daughter could make a formal complaint and the information she needs is here https://www.ulh.nhs.uk/patients/patient-experience/complaints/

I am very sorry to read your comments regarding your daughter’s birth experience. If you could contact the PALS department with your details, we will arrange to meet with your daughter to go through her birth.
