"We couldn't have wished for a better group of staff"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter (8yo) was going in for surgery this week  to have an ingrown toenail removed. She has Lymphoedema in both legs and feet, and was very worried and didnt want the procedure to happen. We decided not to tell her and just take her along as if it was a regular appointment. This meant her stress levels were high on the day.

We were met by staff i  Ward1B who immediately saw she was scared and came over and spoke with her.

They took us i to the play room and introduced us to Jackie she was amazing talking to her and got her involved in drawing and put a dvd on.

After a time we were taken to a room with a bed where my little girl would be expected to go from to surgery.

The gave her a premed to help her relax, she got upset and most of it came back out her mouth going everywhere, but the nurses were fab with her. Elaine was our main nurse and she couldnt have been nicer. Nothing was too much of an effort, even calling our practice to advise the of the dressings on her wounds to allow then to organise a referral to the local clinic to get her dressings changed.

Another nurse with Elaine (tall & blond, didnt get her name) was also great keeping her calm and answering all of her questions.

The whole team from reception to Mr Davis the surgeon were great we couldnt have wished for a better group of staff. They deserve a huge big rhankyou.

Dear HedgieT

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to hear that your young daughter had to come in for what was a potentially very stressful procedure. It is great to hear, however, that your daughter was so supported by the whole team and this helped to manage what was a very difficult day for you all. Your kind words highlight the impact of the whole team working together to provide excellent care and the difference this makes to patients and families.

We will share your kind words with the whole team including Jackie, Elaine and Mr Davis and I know they will be delighted to receive this.

I hope your daughter is doing well back at home and recovering well following her procedure.

Best wishes

Pam
