"Disappointed and lost all faith in an emergency..."

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

What could be improved

Was the level of joined up working between nurses, doctors and other departments. The courtesy to explain all aspects of what is happening with your care and why they choose certain treatments over others and the explanation of that to the patient or family member. The ability to remember you are dealing with a person and not just another number on the list. To have explored all avenues before giving up and sending the paitent home still in pain with no real explanation of what is wrong and why.

Anything else?

My husband went in to A&E with a life threatening DVT in his leg, once his blood test had come back and it was established that his levels were low instead of being given Anti coagulant medication he was sent home having been told it was a muscle sprain and given crutches to help him walk! Nothing given for the immense pain he was in and no medication to help dissolve the blood clot.

I am very sorry that you and your husband had this experience at our hospital and that this caused you to lose faith in us. We would very much like to discuss your experience with you in order to resolve your concerns. In the meantime I have forwarded your concerns to the matron for A&E. Please contact Patient Experience Team on 01227 783 145 or email PatientExperience@ekht.nhs.uk.
