First class care

I write this from my hospital bed, thanks to the lightning reactions of wonderful Doctor who had a very stressful time with me on Monday. I had come to the surgery 12 days prior to see another lovely GP who put me on antibiotics for a lump and a rash. She made an appt to see a different doctor to follow up and the picture had changed. I was booked in with a different doctor 5 days later who prescribed anti histamines and anti fungals for my changing rash and a further follow up appt. On Monday, I was back in front of the same doctor again who saw that the rash hadn’t gone away so decided to refer me to a dermatologist. In the meantime, she felt blood tests would be in order and arranged them to be done the same morning. She also noticed that I had a rash on the back of my head where I complained of an intense headache. Two hours later, I was back in the surgery having bloods taken by a nurse . The nurse noticed I wasn’t quite right so sent me back to My doctor who realised that there was a significant change in those 2 hours and reacted with lightning speed. From what I can remember, I was put on the couch, and then was surrounded by a few extra nurses and another doctor was called into the room whilst my doctor was on the phone to the hospital and ringing an ambulance. I knew I was deteriorating fast but I knew that my doctor and the team were working quickly to help. I was soon in an ambulance with blue lights all the way to hospital- which My doctor insisted on. Due to her extraordinary support and help, I was rushed into a cubicle at Royal Surrey hospital , with nurses and a doctor ready, attached to a drip with essential drugs within minutes and I am now being treated for suspected meningitis or another viral infection which attacked my immune system. This GP, didn’t leave the care there - she called me out of hours later that evening to see how I was doing as I don’t think she would have slept that night without worrying. She was clearly relieved to hear my voice. I was so touched by this call- it showed she truly cared about me, not as a patient, but as a human being who was in deep trouble. I don’t think she will forget that day in a hurry (or me!) I certainly won’t forget all her personal kindness, her sensitivity, her gentleness, true TLC and also all the fabulous care I received that day. I think Wonersh Surgery is a fantastic surgery - I have been to it too many times this year unfortunately. The receptionists all do a great job on the phones, which do get very busy, but also on the front desk and behind the scenes. The nurses are great. The triage system works well and I think all of the doctors are absolutely amazing. I was worried about leaving my previous surgery when I moved to the area, but I feel I am in excellent hands at Wonersh Surgery. Thank you to each and every member of staff.
