"Appendicitis 9/4/19"

About: Salford Royal / General surgery

Salford is an utterly brilliant hospital. I arrived at A&E at 9am and had my appendix out by 9pm on the same day. Every member of staff I encountered was friendly and helpful from A&E reception/triage all the way to the on call consultant on STU. The system was clearly stretched and very busy but it didn’t stop anyone from trying their hardest and doing their job with a smile on their face. I spent only a few hours in A&E, but they were efficient and kind. I then went to STU and was treated for my symptoms and assessed by the surgical team. I was kept in the loop at all times and frequently had members of STU staff check up on me in the lead up to surgery whilst managing my symptoms. The surgical and anaesthetic teams explained everything very clearly, were happy to answer any of my questions and concerns and made my first experience of general anaesthetic as good as it could have possible been. The night staff on STU were brilliant at making me comfortable and feel at home despite being on a ward. The following day the nursing and surgical team on STU checked up on me and clearly explained the plan going forward so I felt more than happy going home later that day informed about things to keep an eye out for and how to maximise my recovery. Thanks you very much to everyone I encountered during my brief stay!

Dear Anonymous

We always appreciate feedback on our staff and we are delighted to hear of your positive experience of our service to remove your appendix.

It is wonderful that you have shared that you were happy with your treatment and care whilst with us in A&E, theatre and STU and how you felt that our staff looked after you personally to make your experience a good one.

We would be happy to share this with the team, if you could contact our PALS service with details of when you attended, we can ensure that your comments reach all who were involved in your care. The PALS team can be contacted on 0161 206 2003 or via email to pals@srft.nhs.uk between the hours of 08:30 and 16:30, Monday to Friday.

Thank you again, and all the best with your continued recovery.
