"Botched blood test"

About: Royal Free Hospital / Maternity

I had to have a routine blood test. The nurse attempted three times to find my vein and failed. She even tried twice in the same spot. No apology, no plaster. A second nurse had a fourth go and dug around to find my vein. During this time people were coming and going from the room dropping in urine samples. I have never had such a bad blood testing experience at any other hospital. Both my arms are sore and bruised. There was not even water available when I felt faint. The whole thing took over fifteen minutes. My partner was disgusted.

Dear Trisha

Thank you for taking time to leave feedback on NHS Choices.

Not only am I sorry for the number of attempts it took before blood could be taken (although it can be difficult at times) and for your sore bruised arms I am also sorry that the staff did not do more to reassure you.

Furthermore pass my apology to your partner.

Kind Regards

Richard
