I phoned the practice on Maundy Thursday having visited Gompels chemists with an inflamed/itchy finger. Thechemist advised me that I should see a nurse as it appeared infected, & shouldn’t be left over a 4 day Bank Holiday. After waiting 15 mins for a reply, & a further 10 mins for details, I was advised by the Receptionist that a Doctor would call me back to deal with it. I waited all afternoon & finally telephoned again at 5.15pm, only to be told that there was no record of a call being booked. I was fobbed off at first by the evening Receptionist who seemed unable or unwilling to understand that I had already received professional advise that an infection was setting in& that calling 111 was not going to deal with the issue. She said only emergency appointments could be made, which she defined as chest pains, but not blood infection/sepsis. She said no doctor could call me back until next week & offered me a triage appointment almost a week later, which I have reluctantly accepted. But pointed out that if sepsis sets in, then that appointment might not be needed...This is my first interaction with the new set up (I am a St Damian’s patient) and I am not at all impressed. Hoping my Easter isn’t ruined.
