"Giving birth to my first daughter"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Vale of Leven General Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

I would like to thank the ambulance crew and emergency call taker who helped with delivery of my baby girl. They were very calm and reasurring to me and my husband. I was almost ready to give birth on the toilet but the lady on the phone made sure my husband got me onto our bed instead. The ambulance crew were so quick and efficient. I had enough time to get to the ambulance between my contractions. The young girl who helped me deliver my baby was fantastic. I would love to be able to say thank you for everything.

The hospital pretty much tried to take ownership of my baby's delivery. They also made me make the journey to the hospital when I was crowning in our own home the paramedic said it was my choice. However the midwife wouldn't make a 10 minute journey to our house. I'm disappointed with the maternity unit but greatly appreciate the ambulance and the emergency team. Thanks to them my baby girl is safe and sound and doing great today she is now four and a half month. It was late November 2018 at about half 3 in the morning. Thank you all so much.

Dear Pearsonator,

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely story and I really pleased to hear that you and your baby are doing so well.

Our emergency call handlers are specially trained to give advice prior to the ambulance arriving and in fact if they talk a patient through childbirth before the crew arrive they are awarded a special stork badge!

If you want to, please contact me on 0141 810 6101 so that I am able to feed back to the staff member concerned.

Thanks again and the best of luck to you and your family for your future together.

Pat
