"We have had nothing but trouble"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

my grandma has recently been diagnosed with dementia and we have recently found out she has brittle diabetes which can be very complicated in its self. she is currently at connect house where she receives 24 hour care and they have managed to keep her diabetes under control since the new year.

Unfortunately my grandma tried to take herself to the toilet and had a fall where she broke her nose and has a small bleed to the brain. after being transferred to to D58 I can say without a doubt they have NOT took enough time to read her notes. they want to investigate her falls and mess with her insulin which she has 4 times a day which is a lot but I cant stress enough that she has brittle diabetes and it works for her and is why she hasn't had an admission for a while so why mess with it. if they had read the notes they would have known this and the fact she hasn't given herself insulin for over the past year yet tried to make her do it herself. the reason for her falls is that she has nerve damage in her feet through diabetes and she is unsteady on her feet that is it!

the worst thing is that after being told repeatedly about her diabetes they still gave her a scone for pudding! which shot her sugar levels up and when quizzed did not show any concern for the fact that what they had done would be making her ill! we just want her discharged as we have had nothing but trouble with QMC and the lack of empathy and care for my grandma and us as a family. it seems basic skills of staff  getting to know patients and read notes have gone a miss and important information has not been passed on. it is very sad and disheartening and I feel these wards and the care for the elderly needs to change!
