"Fabulous help and fast treatment from everyone"

About: Falkirk Community Hospital / Opthalmology Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as the patient),

I received fabulous help and fast treatment from the Falkirk Eye Clinic, Boots Opticians, NHS 24, Falkirk A+E and my doctor...

I was at work on Saturday night and started experiencing shooting pains in my eye due to light sensitivity. I knew something was wrong as my right eye was sore and red for a few days before.

On the Sunday morning I phoned NHS 24 and the lovely lady listened intently and immediately told me to go to Falkirk hospitals A+E, where she had already passed on my case.

Upon arriving at Forth Valley Royal, I only had to wait 15 minutes until a general nurse scanned my eyes on the machine and thought she saw an abrasion on my Cornea.

She prescribed me Chloramphenicol and told me to apply it 4 times on that Sunday.i was literally in and out. Superb.

The next morning after a restless sleep, with water coming from my eye, I knew I had to see a doctor.

I phoned my doctors and explained my ailment and the doctor phoned me within 5 minutes to listen to me. He told me to get to an opticians straight away, as they specialise in eyes. He had great respect for the A+E nurses as they have to deal with so many issues and eyes require expertise ... as he said, eyes need quick attention!

I then phoned Boots up the town and after saying my doctor said I need an emergency appointment, they kept the momentum going. I was booked in for 14:35 that Monday.(4 hours away). ๐Ÿ‘Œ

The graduate examined me and I could tell it was it good, but she then talked to her boss who came and re examined me.

Within 20 mins they write a letter to the Falkirk Eye Clinic at the old hospital.

They said โ€œWeโ€™ve never seen this before but you are booked at the clinic in 2 hours time at 1700.โ€.  Worry was already set in, but the train was moving fast, some team.

At 1650 I went to the Eye Clinic, and after handing over my letter , I was summoned through to the Clinic within (again) 15 mins.

I was again scanned by a nice lass, who had my previous details.

At around 1745 I was speaking to Dr. Cheema who then analysed my eyes. His speciality expertise was obvious.

His diagnosis was then compared to Dr Livingston. Who quickly re confirmed what was diagnosed. I had Uveitis.

Both guys were confident. Nice and made me feel at ease. My worries were settled when they said they see this a lot. Not to worry.

Jaz the nurse and the other girl were fantastic too.

Within 2 hours I had been diagnosed, and eventually my eyeball injected with Adrenalin.

I was handed 2 eye drops to take. Looked after as I sat to make sure I was okay.

Iโ€™m booked in for next Monday with Dr Livingston and have every confidence I will heal well.

Basically, my experience of our strained NHS is one of total admiration and thanks.

Every single person who helped me was professional and lovely.

I imagine there are many bad experiences written elsewhere. But our Falkirk Doctors, Nurses and are in my mind, some of the worlds best. In my โ€œEyesโ€ obviously. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜‰

Massive thanks to the NHS machine.

Dear Bagpiper

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. The experience with your eye sounds painful and I am pleased you received treatment and have a return appointment in place.

What a fantastic example of person-centred care provided in a timely manner. It is great to read of services working together to ensure patients receive the best possible care. Good communication also seems to be the key.

Thanks for specifically mentioning your call to NHS 24. The Care Opinion Team has kindly tagged us to your story. Should you wish to contact us directly, with some additional detail, we would be able to share your story with the staff member who managed your call.
