I cannot thank the staff enough in the labour ward and theatre for looking after me and my family during the labour. They were very professional, caring and quick to make decisions.
My wife was so exhausted in the recovery room she would fall asleep mid conversation. They wanted to transfer her to a new ward but requested if she could get longer in recovery room as i knew this new ward would be busy. I’d asked if we could possibly get a top to ourselves when transferring but this was declined. I’d been told it was only due to certain circumstances which is understandable but I’d be thought maybe my wife would have fit in this category.
We transferred to Ashgrove ward where staff were very attentive to helping my wife establishing breastfeeding. Staff were patient with her and great at building our knowledge and confidence. Also student midwives are fantastic, particularly Bethany who had a kind professional and approachable manner. Unfortunately there was an evening where a midwife who’d we had not met didn’t show any empathy regarding breastfeeding and upset my exhausted and very emotional wife. This threw her confidence, fortunately another midwife took control of the situation.
Ashgrove ward at time feels like the staff are being pulled in many directions but they do they’re best to provide a high level of care. The open guest time policy is handy but when your wife is exhausted and the person in next bed had up to 6 guests at one point for hours on end being quite noisy,I tend to think they should be politely asked to go to visitors room.
I’d like to thank everyone for the high level of care my family received at the maternity hospital.
