About: Frimley Park Hospital (Frimley)

What I liked

All the midwives, obstetricians and consultants, particularly in the Central Delivery Suite were wonderful and couldn't have taken care of me any better, in my view. They were very constant and considerate of what I was going through as everything was different having a natural birth after a c-section previously. I don't think I would have enjoyed the experience as much as I did, had it not been for the excellent support and consideration I was provided with throughout the induction, labour and giving birth to my daughter.

What could be improved

The only issue I had was when I was moved to the post natal ward and on the eve of the day I had my daughter before I left the following day, there was one instance where I was told off for carrying my daughter when saying goodbye to my sister and at the same time searching for a midwife or similar to let them know I had left a pot of wee in one of the toilets. Although I understand that it is probably a sensible policy to avoid any incidents when people are rushing around, at the same time, I think it is important that it is explained to patients in a way that does not make them feel like they are a child. It was the only time I had a negative feeling whilst in the hospital and had it not been that I have had a baby before and I was able to pull myself together, rather than start to cry instantly, it may have adversely affected my whole experience. I understand that the midwives etc are very busy but the mothers are also very vulnerable emotionally and this should be taken into much more consideration in the ward. My experience at Frimley when I had my first child had been much worse and I didn't enjoy my post natal experience in the wards at all and the consideration of a mother's feelings was very much the issue on that occasion. Being dismissive and matter of fact is not appropriate.

Thank you for taking the time to post these kind comments about your experience in our Maternity department. We will make sure they are passed on. We will also pass on your account of the way you felt you were spoken to by one member of staff, for which we apologise. While it is unlikely that they meant to upset you, it is really helpful to hear your perspective. We use accounts like yours to train our staff since it is the patients’ perception that is most important, especially at such an emotional time in their lives.
