The A & E department struggles with admitting large amounts of people but happily watches the frail and the old sit for hours on trollies, whilst numerous staff wonder up and down.
My 90 year old mother was admitted with a suspected stroke. In front of her were two patients. It took 2 hours to be seen. A further hour for an x-ray and another 2 hours for a CT scan...this was a push by me as I had lost all patience at this point.
The reason for the CT delay was because they were waiting for the staff member to come back off her break.
By 6pm she couldn't have an ultrasound for her neck as the department closes. Methinks having a manager on duty to check and update where each patient is up to could relieve the chaos inside the unit.
The uniforms are a mixture of everything. No one looks in charge and no one keeps the corridor updated.
Yes it is hard to be dealing with patients who aren't well . No one.goes to the unit for the pleasure of it - but please can you have an indication of a person who can at least talk to the patients so they know what's going on.
Many will say you are understaffed. We were desperately trying to get out of the unit and get my mother home (or at least off the trolley) ...which would have left you a bed for someone else. Please look at a manger for organising the care in the department.
