I had become quite disabled by an arthritic hip, sought help from the Ninewells Orthopaedics department and had my hip replaced just over a year ago. It has transformed my life in many different ways. From simple things like pain reduction, putting on socks to life changing things like getting out hill walking again.
The journey of care I experienced was excellent at both a physical and emotional level. A big thank you to the whole team of doctors, nurses and ward staff. A particular thank you to the very junior nursing team and nursing students who showed a genuine level of empathy and person-centered care.
Another reflection relates to the anaesthetic given by sedation and spinal - I had been terrified of this, but found it a pain free 'doddle'!
The principle of providing a large suitcase for all my belongings was very clever.
Congratulations to the whole Orthopaedic, Anaesthetic and AHP team! If I need my other hip done in the future, I know where to go.
