"She’ll make an incredible midwife"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Not all hero’s wear capes! The midwives at the BGH make having a baby a positive experience no matter on how the actual birth goes.

I spent 36hrs in the care of the midwives at the BGH before finally having my baby girl via emergency C section.

After suffering some blood loss and not reacting well to antibiotics I had to be transferred to a single room and spend an extra night.

All the staff I encountered were unbelievable from the midwives to the theatre staff! However I wanted to give a special mention to Abbie, a student midwife who I don’t think realises just how valuable her help and support was in making my first few days as a mum memorable dispute being sore, tired and sick! She’ll make an incredible midwife and be an asset to any team she joins! Thanks Abbie from me and Beth!

Thank you so much for your kind words. It is not always easy to plan what will happen when we have a baby and it is great to hear you felt well supported.

We strive to provide high quality care as a team and the involvement of students is so important. Our students are our future Midwives and I am delighted that you found her care so valuable in your hospital stay and in the birth of your daughter Beth.

I shall share your feedback with the team and shall ensure that Abbie is included.

Best wishes

Shona
