"Cervical smear results"

About: Fireclay Health Tyntesfield Medical Group

(as the patient),

I had my appt as soon as I turned 25 last Spring at St George Health Centre, Bristol and was told I would get the results within 2 weeks. 4 months later I still had not heard anything and rang up my surgery (Backwell medical centre, a different surgery due to the fact I had recently moved away from home) they said the results might be with my old surgery so I called and they said no we do not have them. I finally got hold of a receptionist at Backwell who said we have them but I cannot tell you them I will have to wait for your doctor. I got a call a few hours later saying they had found low grade changes and HPV so I had to have another smear which resulted in a a biopsy, at the biopsy they said I have low grade changes and high grade HPV. I feel it is not acceptable to make me wait that long when I am such high risk and I dread to think what would have happened if I was too scared to ring.

I am very sorry to hear that there has been a delay in you receiving the results of your smear test. A patient receives their smear results directly from the Screening Service usually within 14 days, they are sent by post. The change of address is probably the reason for the delay.

Your new practice should have been able to access the result either via your patient record or via an NHS system called Open Exeter.

Kind Regards

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback although I am sorry to hear you have had a negative experience. Unfortunately, as I am unable to access your medical record I cannot investigate this issue further. If you would like to contact the surgery to discuss this with me, I am more than happy to do so. We take our patient feedback very seriously.

Thank you Amber, it is much appreciated. I think it was a communication issue and hopefully will not happen to anyone again.
