"DIAGNOSTIC ENDOSCOPY DEPARTMENT - OUTSTANDING..."

About: Southampton NHS Treatment Centre

I attended the RSH Endoscopy Department this week for a sigmoidoscopy procedure.

I was not looking forward to it but I have to say that all the staff involved in my appointment were absolutely brilliant.

I attended the day before to be informed by a nurse of what would take place on the day.

She gave me detailed briefing on what to do in advance and went through the consent form and outlined what would happen.

On the day I took the enema as instructed and did not encounter any problems with the enema kit I was given.

I arrived at the Endoscopy Department where after a short wait I was ushered into a private area to change into hospital clothing for the procedure to take place.

The nurses were polite and informative and I felt that my dignity was at the forefront of their thinking.

I was given privacy to change and then escorted into the room where the sigmoidoscopy took place.

The consultant and staff were polite, engaging and very caring throughout.

The procedure was relatively quick - slightly uncomfortable but bearable without any pain relief.

The consultant was reassuring throughout and all staff very attentive.

He explained what was happening and what the scope was showing.

Throughout the procedure my comfort was considered and I was offered pain relief - although not needed.

At the end of the examination I was given the result immediately. I was also given a full detailed report on the examination.

I can quite honestly say that the appointment was absolutely first class and that the department was outstanding.

I can not imagine how it could have been improved upon.

I am extremely impressed with all the staff I encountered and with the facilities at RSH.

Thank you to all the staff and in particular the nurses and consultant for their kindness.
