After countless times of trying to get through to their phone lines and trying to book an online appointment (which there wasn’t any available for the next 4 weeks, even for emergency contraception!)
I was told that there was no evening drop in clinic anymore on a Thursday night - Fair enough. I was told to come to the 9:15am- drop in clinic on the Friday morning. I got to Nye Bevan for 9am. Being 15 minutes early I thought I would be one of the first people there. (This was my first time ever being at the drop in clinic) i found it very uncomfortable to even attend the clinic as I have never in my 20 years needed to go. I had to attend due to my Doctors not having the type of contraception that I have asked for. I got to the main desk on the third floor (sexual health clinic). I told the woman I was new to this and not sure where I needed to go. I explained that I would like to see someone about .... before I finished my sentence she pulled her face at me and then added “sorry were full, if you have any signs or Symptoms, you can get a test online”. How on earth is she allowed to assume that I’m there due to and STD? I mentioned to her that I’m here for contraception. She turned her nose up at me and said see your doctor? Come back Monday? This was in front of another 3 people.
I walked away feeling VERY upset. To the point I got in my car and just cried. I was terrified to even turn up to the clinic and then to be judged straight away. This was the most embarrassing, awful thing I’ve had to experience. I have been with my boyfriend 2 years and have been on the pill. I react very badly to the pill. Hence why I wanted some other form of contraception. I’ve had no help what so ever. And this is why young girls are falling pregnant because they aren’t getting the contraception that they need and what kind suits them! Very very unhappy. I am now on no contraception at all and worried. And Condoms can’t be used due to certain reasons.
