"Eye casulty"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Ophthalmology

I have had reoccurring problems with my eyes for the past few months. So I have spent quite a lot of time in the eye casualty department. I can't say enough how amazing all the staff are from the receptionists, nurses, doctors, consultants and health carers they are so helpful, friendly and reassuring.

However, the only thing I think needs to be thought about is the waiting times. I understand that if you get sent to the eye clinic for an unplanned appointment you might have to wait a little longer. But if there are patients that have a set time for there appointments they should be seen with in a set time. I had waited more than 2 hours on a few occasions to be seen by my consultant. I think the planned appointments and emergency appointments need to be separated. I'm only 30 years old but I seen 80 to 90 year olds waiting for the same amount of time I was it's a long time for some older patients. This comment isn't aimed towards the staff I feel that they are under an awful amount of pressure but a few adjustments could make things a lot easier.

Dear Blue eyes

Thank you for sharing your recent experience over the past few months at our Ophthalmology Department; firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you on here. My name is Michaela and I am the Patient Experience Coordinator here at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, part of my role is to read all feedback we receive on Care Opinion and ensure that it is shared with the relevant staff.

I am pleased to read that all staff were amazing from the receptionists, nurses, doctors, consultants and health carers, that they are so helpful, friendly and reassuring. I will share your kind words and praise with the Eye Department's Sister and ask that she in turn shares with her team.

I also take on board your comments regarding waiting times and know that the Sister will also be keen to look into this further within her department. They are continuously reviewing the services they provide and trying to make improvements where possible to provide a more positive patient experience for all.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

With best wishes

Michaela Brewer, Patient Experience Coordinator
