"traumatic birth"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Maternity

My son and his partner had an extremely traumatic birth at Sharoe Green Hospital. His partner was told to get off the bed and stand up as she was not near to giving birth she was then left without a midwife in the final stages.

Within seconds her mother who was with her and my son thankfully, could see the head had been born and shouted at my son to get the midwife quick. Their baby boy then came out with both of them trying to catch him and he fell to the floor, i dread to think what would have happened to him if his fall had not been broken by them both. The midwifes appeared and just stood there looking at him lying on the floor, it was down to his partners mum to pick the baby up and put him on the bed. As well as all this the umbilical cor snapped during the birth so he did'nt even get to cut the cord.

Would definitely not recommend this maternity unit

We are very concerned to read this and would ask the family to please consider contacting the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) here at Royal Preston Hospital on 01772 522972 who will be able to liaise with Maternity on the family's behalf and also provide information on the NHS complaints procedure.

PALS is open Monday to Friday from 9 - 4pm and there is a voicemail facility outside those hours.
