My relative was referred by her GP to ward 27a for admisssion to hospital.
We waited for a total of five hours sitting on the most uncomfortable chairs and in the most uninviting and dirty waiting area i have ever seen. Another patient who had been there a month previousely pointed out some mucous from someones nose on the wall which had been there on his previous visit!
The waiting time was atrocious, considering the fact that the patients had all been referred by their GP so were all very unwell. At no time in between being seen by a nurse for blood tests etc, did anyone have the courtesy to inform us as to what was going on or how long we could be expected to wait.
My relative was in considerable pain and was not offered any pain relief in the whole 5 hours. After eventually seeing a doctor my relative came out in tears after being intimidated by this person (doctor) who walked off without even saying what was going to be done.
After another long wait, a nurse came to tell my relative they were being admitted to a ward. The nursing staff were all very nice but the attitude and manner of some doctors were disgraceful.
The nicest, most considerate and caring person we came across was the tea lady. I finally left my relative in the care of the ward staff. It was very upsetting and hard to leave after the terrible experience they had had.
If this is the NHS 2012, then God help us!
