"The worse experience i have had in EPU"

About: Princess Anne Hospital / Gynaecology

I have been trying for a baby for many years and have had recurrent miscarriages and a hugh risk of Ectopic pregnancy. This year in January 2019 i found out i was pregnant. I had to have a 6 week scan done to make sure this pregnancy was not ectopic. Luckily it was not amd was a normal intrauterine pregnancy. We saw baby but obviously very amall with no heartbeat. I was fiven another appointment to come back to see if baby had geown.

I was a little concerned about the size so i decided to pay for a reassurance scan 6 days later. Bany jad grown slightly but had bradycardia (very abnormal heartbeat) i called up EPU in Southampton aboyt the results and they were so rude about the ordeal. I felt really upset about the way they spoke to me.

On Monday i woke up at 3am with horrendous pains in my lower stomach. I thought it was the start of a miscarriage as embryos with bradycardia have a 0% survival rate. My wife called up Bramshaw ward and was advised to call up the EPU. My partner called up the EPU as soon as they opened at 9am. She advised them that i woke up at 3am with severe pains and that i am a high risk of miscarriages. The nurse was so rude to my partner and said well she can take pain relief. We will not move her scan forward. The nurse sounded cold hearted and had no compassion at all.

My partner gave me pain relief and we went to Winchester for the day. I callopsed in pain whilst there. My partner took me to a&e. They saw me and took me straight to gynaecology ward. Rhey throughly checked me over and wanted me to have a scan done for the following day.

The next day arrived and had the scan. Baby had no heartbeat and died.

My partner called up EPU in Southampton and explained that we needed to cancel my scan for a few days time as i had a missed miscarriage. The only response my partner got was i will cancel that. There was no i am very sorry for your partners loss or any compassion.

My partner and I are absolutely appalled by thw way we were treated by thw EPU.

I am currently awaiting surgery (Friday 1st March) for Surgical management of miscarriage at Winchester gyane ward

In future pregnancies i will get referred to Winchester early pregnancy unit. They are far more compassionate, caring and sympathetic.
