child was admitted to the children's ward, after being held in the waiting area with a sick child who was later found to be clinically dry and a dangerously low blood sugar for 50 minutes after spending nearly 4 hours in a&e dept.
Once in the ward I was never offered any food/meals for my child. even given her low blood sugar. we had to stay over night, we were woken every hour and had very little sleep with the noise in the ward. Once we finally fell asleep come the morning, we slept through breakfast so again I had to buzz and ask for something for her to eat and drink. was made to feel terrible for asking for calpol when she had an other temp throughout the night and the morning. there was never a child's thermometer used so I feel they never had an accurate reading of her temp. I had to buzz again for some towels so I could wash her. her blood sugar was never checked before she was discharged even though I had advised she had very little to eat/drink.
I felt she may do better away from the hospital environment as she was not keen on any staff coming near her. So after being told I could take her home I then HAD to wait 4.5 hours for her discharge script, even after asking if I could come back for it or another member of the family collect it to get her home and try and get her to eat/ drink. I was advised I could not leave without it. I then had to wait all that time with an unhappy sick child who I was then beginning to worry had very little to eat/ drink but needed her own environment. I was made to feel I was annoying staff asking about the discharge letter.
