"generally good with more attention needed to..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

What I liked

the nurses were very pleasant considering the amount of work the had to cope with as the ward was extremely busy.

extra blankets were avaiable if we felt cold we only had to ask for them.

What could be improved

the noise overall could have been less as this was high day and night.

the was a lot of noise from some shouting patients day and night causing lack of sleep when trying to recover.

noise from nurses taking private phonecalls during the night.

complained about a pressure sore devoloping on my heel on my first day which was thursday and was told "well the skin is not broken" and after complaining about the pain again was asked if i wanted s domething under my foot, eventually offered a pressure mattress on the sunday which deflated and had to be replaced which did not constantly move therefore i had to manually move my foot again.

I did not have a monkey bar to help me lift myself and was left with sore forearms from pulling myself up the bed also causing the pressure sore to hurt more.

Anything else?

i have always believed when a risk assesment is carried out that this is done with communication by the nurse and the patient and on reading the completed risk assessment done on my behalf with no input from myself I had been underscored, one of these being impaired mobility!!

Response from Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital

Thank you for your feedback, some of which we found very interesting as they were good observations on the sorts of issues that we are working hard to put right at the moment - but in your case clearly some of these messages are quite getting through yet. We were wondering, therefore, if you would be interested in sharing your experience directly with us so that we can use that - anonymised if you prefer - to help our staff understand how seemingly simple issues can have a very large impact on a patient's experience of the care provided. If you would be happy to help us in this way, all you need do is drop us an e-mail to generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net and we will take it from there.
