"No Caring Profession Here"

About: Gladstone Med Ctr

Today the bus I was on was forced to break and a very frail elderly lady cut her nose and had a huge bump on her head. She was somewhat dazed so I got off the bus with her as could not have left even a stranger alone in that predicament. As Gladstone Medical Centre was near I called in with the lady hoping for some help at least a doctor or nurse to look at her and offer some advice. What a joke. Refused to see her because she was not a patient and they did not have access to her medical records. All we wanted was maybe a bit of gauze to mop her up, a glass of water may have been nice but not here. Even if there was not a GP or nurse available surely as a work place they should have a first aider Thank heavens for the pharmacist in the chemist next door who was really kind and helpful. Reception staff need training in compassion and human decency

Thank you for your comments. Indeed as a practice, we are happy to deal with any emergencies that may arise (and have done so over the past four decades). We have got trained First Aiders who follow the proper protocol. In case of any emergency, they would call 999 as per practice policy. In case of advise and minor help, they would sign post patients to the right service. On this occasion, the receptionist who received the request, dealt with it appropriately and sign posted the patient to the nearest first aider, which happened to be a Pharmacist. Our Doctors and Nurse are always available to provide clinical care to our patients.
