"My fiance was met with total indifference"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My fiance went to emergencies with an acute pain starting from his neck down to his back he has since more than 10 days. I don't know what is going on in this hospital, I understand there are other patients and everybody has health issues but it's unimaginable how you can't treat a human with such indifference.

He went for the second time as his pain got worst since he was seen by a nurse in the first instance (after hours of sitting on a chair) who prescribed him paracetamol and ibuprofen. Now he waited again on a chair for hours. Asked if there is any spare bed available to lay down as he couldn't hold his head anymore and he could see behind the receptionist a spare emergency bed but they said there is nothing available.

He was told that a doctor can see him only at 7.30am. He was there since 3am. Serious??? You are capable of leaving a human to wait so many hours just because he is a man and he can handle it and if he tells you he can't bare anymore with the pain you can't offer him anything?

He couldn't stay anymore so he left, so now he needs to take it back from the beginning?

Dear Marinela

I'm sorry your fiancee had to wait so long, unfortunately at times it is a very long wait to see a Dr due to the number of people attending the department.

Paracetamol and Ibruprofen are the medications that some nurses can give at triage before you see a DR which is why those were given, initially.

Although a space may appear to be empty if we block all cubicles with patients there is then no space for Drs to examine patients when they see them causing further delays in patient being seen.

I'm sorry you felt you were treated with indifference and that you could not wait to be seen. Please get your fiancee to contact our PALS department on pals@tst.nhs.uk or 01823 343536 with your details if you would like us to look into this further.

Kind regards
