"My recent hospital admission on at treliske"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance) / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I went to west Cornwall hospital Penzance  due to severe chest pains with score of 9 out of 10. I was treated with ecg and morphine and told that I would need to go to treliske for blood tests. I was treated very good at west Cornwall.

when I got to treliske I was put on a bed for about 45 minutes when the doctor came to see me, where they told me that it was not my heart and it would never be. I don’t agree with this due to a history of heart attack in my family and I suffer with angina.

After the doctor had gone I was taken off the bed still with a pain score of 9 and put in a chair for a further 4 hours. I have been told by one or more medical staff to go to hospital if I get severe chest pain but the doctor made me feel like I was just wasting their time.

I know that the medical profession are under pressure but I don’t think I should have been spoken to like that.

Dear Peanut66

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your recent experience of West Cornwall and Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT). Firstly, please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to you. My name is Michaela and I work within the Patient and Family Experience Team, part of my role is to review all feedback we receive on here and ensure that it is brought to the attention of the relevant staff.

I am pleased to learn that you received very good care at West Cornwall Hospital and will be sharing this with the Manager to share with his wider team as I know they will be delighted with your kind words. I am sorry that your experience at RCHT was quite different and that you were treated the way you were by the Doctor responsible for your care; I can assure you that this is not the way we would expect any of our patients to be spoken too.

As a team, we would really like to look into this particular event for you, but would require some further details to ensure that it is investigated thoroughly, such as which department you attended; if you would be happy for us to do so or if there are any other concerns we can help to resolve for you, please contact our Patient and Family Experience (Complaints) team by leaving a message on 01872 252793 or email rcht.patientexperience@nhs.net (office hours Monday-Friday 9am - 4pm). A Case Worker will get back to you within 3 working days to discuss your concerns with you in more detail.

I am sorry again for your negative experience and the distress this has caused you, I hope that we will be able to help you further.

With kind regards

Michaela Brewer, Patient Experience Coordinator

Update posted by Peanut66 (the patient)

Hi Michaela,I can’t remember what department I was in it wasn’t a@e. I have recently been back in when I came in for an endoscopy and ended up in the same department for chest pain again and was treated with great concern this time. The two doctors that saw me this time were great and also the other staff.
