When I found out I was losing my leg nearly 3yrs ago I was devastated and was able to visit Westmarc prior to the operation. David in prosthetics was excellent at explaining how my after care would be, about the leg I could get etc. His compassion and understanding gave me some comfort and hope.
Since having the amputation the care and support I have received from everyone in Westmarc has been second to none. The full physio team esp Nikki, Fiona (when she was covering) and Joanne have been amazing. Elena, David and Anne in prosthetics have been fantastic and not only have always been so supportive, understanding and amazing at their jobs but they also have encouraged me so much to lose weight which is helping my walking. You would think that having to remake legs for me more frequently due to loosing weight would be extra work but no - Elena has been fantastic in supporting me with this and is more than happy to make new legs if its too big. The other staff I’ve met in prosthetics are always so friendly, caring and listen to me without rushing although they have a busy schedule.
Paul the psychologist is also amazing and has made me look at life more positively again which I never thought would happen. He's a great listener, so nonjudgemental and gives open and honest advice whether good or bad. The receptionists, nurses etc are all brilliant too. I could go on forever about the staff and how friendly, compassionate and how they all show real empathy to everyone and nothing ever seems to much hassle.
Westmarc is a great service with an absolutely out of this world team who you can tell really care and enjoy their jobs!
I have never been to West marc and not felt welcome or greeted by a friendly face!
Thanks for giving me hope to get over this, the support you have all given myself both physically and emotionally is appreciated more than you will ever know. Keep up the good work!!
