"Shambolic admin systems."

About: St Andrews Medical Practice.

I've recently registered here after my GP retired and the practice closed.

This review is not about the medical care, or staff, as I haven't yet been able to access either. They may well be World class.

I shall be writing to the CQC about the beyond shambolic, not fit for purpose, admin systems. Registration literally takes several weeks (mine took over three. A friend's took exactly three). This is before an appointment can be booked. Appointments seem to be impossible to get. When I returned for what I'd been told was an appointment with a GP, it was in fact an appointment with a Health Care Assistant, who merely went through my registration forms {filled in over three weeks earlier), asking me to confirm the information as he entered it into the computer. Literally nothing had been done with it at all. My notes from my previous GP were not on the system. Just a blank screen. I was informed that it can take 45 days for the notes to be updated. FORTY FIVE DAYS?!

I was promised a telephone consultation with the Doctor on Call, as this is 'absolutely necessary before a repeat prescription can be issued'. Nobody called. I chased it up. Was assured that I'd get a call. Nobody called. So, I visited the next day. Was told that the prescription had been issued, but not 'entered into The System'. No, I didn't understand any of that, either. I thought a consultation was 'absolutely necessary'. And what does 'issued, but not entered' mean?

A staff member told me that they have twelve doctors there, 'so obviously it takes longer to process things'. Once again, I didn't understand that, either. What they didn't say was that there is only one full time doctor. All of the others are part time. There is no information, that I can find, on full time equivalence.

There is a car park. For staff only. So, there isn't a car park. Why do staff have a car park, but patients have to find parking elsewhere, which is generally very challenging.

And, it would be good if a particular receptionist could try a little harder to mask her obvious glee when finding ways to send people away because they haven't got the right paperwork.

However, one particular member of staff is excellent, and the only person there who has actually progressed anything for me. Thank you.
